Talk moves

One of the things that I valued most from this quarter was the practice and implementation of the "talk moves" from our math methods class. Practicing this type of questioning allowed for me to gain some valuable insight on the way that students think mathematically. What I love most about using the talk moves is that the type of questioning used for eliciting student ideas about math can be transferred over into any other subject. It important for students to explain their reasoning rather than getting away with giving a one-word answer and leaving it at that. While these strategies were focused on mainly through a math lens, it is just as important for students to be able to explain their thinking about the setting of a book or even their issues in a class meeting.
